Suburban Bitches do blue & white
Do you remember when Erin & I started up the blog a few months back and we did our first dueling rooms post on living rooms? Mine at the time was looking rather incomplete. There was the naked couch waiting on a slipcover. There was the missing love seat and the corner of the room that desperately needed a fiddle leaf fig tree. And then there were the shelves that were a bit too stark.
This is what the room looked like in June:
And this is the progress I’ve made in the room:
The love seat looks a little black here but nope, it’s actually the West Elm Elton Settee in Ink Blue.
I replaced the two yellow French country chairs with the settee (and I LOVE it! Let me tell you that performance velvet can stand up to grimy little hands like nobody’s business!). I’ve added a pops of color to the settee with the green pillows I previously had on the white couch & one of Erin’s pillows that didn’t work in her living room. I also reoriented the large wall mirror now that the library table isn’t beneath it.
The white couch has it’s new slipcover in white duck & some new pillows of its own. The blue geometric patterned ones are from Whitlock & Co on etsy. She has a great selection of pillow covers and her customer service is phenomenal! The yellow pillow was from Target and the white fringed one is from Crate and Barrel. The navy pompom throw I found on clearance at C. Wonder.
The little white and gold container on the coffee table was another clearance item from West Elm. Like many things I thought it might be even cuter with a coat of gold paint. And the blue & white serving bowl is part of my blue ironstone collection.
I moved the library table back behind the sofa to anchor it into the room and to create better balance. It also makes a handy place to create a moment with a blue ironstone platter, a vintage dictionary & some mercury glass.
I’m still waiting to get the Queen Anne chairs reupholstered in blue of course! Erin and I looked into doing these ourselves but the design of the chair is a bit to complicated so this project isn’t going to be DIY. However the little side table that belongs in between then is definitely a do-it-myselfer. I’m in the midst of silver leafing it. It’s one of those projects that you think will take 3-4 hours then you find you’ve got 8-10 hours under your belt with it and you still aren’t done. By I promise to do a post on it once I am!
I found my fiddle leaf fig (unfortunately not on our trip to IKEA where rumor has it they have them for $15. Our store did not.) And I painted the back of my bookshelves with gold paint to better show off my blue and white.
With the next update post for this room I hope to have a silver leafed side table done, the two chairs refinished and shelving added to my weird empty space to the right of my settee. Hope you have a happy Blue & White Monday!
